I’m not going to pretend I don’t care about who gets elected. This election does matter. But here is the thing… If I spend all my time being anxious and stressed isn’t going to change the outcome. And honestly, I have no control over the outcome. Instead of buying into the high stakes, fear filled rhetoric, I am choosing to focus on what I can control. I can control what I consume. I did my civic duty and voted. May no one take for granted the privilege to vote. However, may no one find their hope in elections and in those who are running to be elected. No matter who you vote for or who wins any of the elected offices, God is in control. God has already predestined the winner of 2024 elections. Just like God has been in control of every previous election in history. God is not and will not be surprised by any outcome. He is working all things for our good even when you can’t see it in the moment. 10.10 #worldmentalhealthday and for the first real time I am opening up about my mental health… Above you will find an assortment of photos from the last 15 years of my life. Literally half of my life I have spent in a battle with my mind that few know about. I have spent many nights, days, afternoons, evenings on a floor whether my bedroom in college or my closet floor in 2020. I have had many days where I felt like I had no control over my mind and it was a chaotic place I was trapped in. Anxiety can do that to you. What’s harder for people to realize is that in every single one of those photos I have been fighting the silent battle of depression. Every single one of those smiling photos… I am depressed. Every day I literally wake up and choose joy. I have to watch what I consume, get enough sleep, and so on just to be able manage it. That includes taking medication. It’s time to normalize that some people’s serotonin comes from a bottle that’s okay. Because they level the playing field so my coping strategies work. I share all this to say to be kind to one another. HOW DUMB IS THAT? How dumb it is to hide because of that. Over the last several years this body has gotten me through a global pandemic, depression, anxiety attacks, and a multitude of other hard things. This body has also gotten me through countless concerts, football games, NBA games, trips with friends, time with family, just experiencing life. Between the first picture and the last picture I’ve lost 20lbs. And everybody celebrates weight loss but here is what I realized I have thought the same thoughts when I saw the first picture for the first time as I saw the last picture yesterday. Here is the thing I don’t want people coming at me. Throughout this whole journey I have had perfect blood work and kept active. Things are always as simple as we would like them to be. However… And no amount of weight loss is going to change the thoughts in my head. I need to remind myself “no one is thinking about you as much as you think they are”. This is your sign that you get to show up as you 100% of the time.
